All Australian Team

June 4th 2008 12:51
I have put together an All Australian team from the first half of the season. Twelve of the twenty-two players come from Geelong, Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs. Although this might seem excessive, it is more a reflection of the dominance of the three teams. The only player in the team whose side is currently not in the eight is Fremantle's Matthew Pavlich. Pavlich has been heavily criticised for missing key shots at goal this season, however he has been the one Fremantle player who has performed consistently. The team is as follows:

B: Craig Bolton, Matthew Scarlett, Heath Shaw

HB: Lindsay Gilbee, Nathan Bock, Chance Bateman
C: Luke Hodge, Adam Cooney, Brent Harvey
HF: Jason Akermanis, Matthew Richardson (c), Ryan O'Keefe
F: Alan Didak, Lance Franklin, Daniel Bradshaw
FOLL: Ben Hudson, Simon Black, Gary Ablett
INT: Sam Mitchell, Joel Corey, Steve Johnson, Matthew Pavlich

All feedback welcome.

Why aren't all the players from my team in the all-australian team? Oh wait i'll just go and complain about that on SEN.

Medhurst has had a great year, but I think Didak has been a little more consistent. It is scary to say, but Collingwood's Rhyce Shaw probably isn't too far away from making the team either. The one player who was the most unlucky was Adelaide's Scott Thompson. Except for the balance of the team, he probably should have been selected above Steve Johnson.

It is interesting to see that Jonathan Brown isn't in the side. i'm not suggesting that he should be but with all the talk about him he would be a given in most sides. I don't think you could play him up front next to buddy and bradshaw though and it would be hard to put him in anywhere else.

One player I thought maybe could have made it on the half back flank was Milburn. Just beacuase he has been convicted of manslaughter doesn't mean you can discriminate against him. He never plays a bad game, always restricts his opponent and is just about as damaging as scarlett bringing the ball off the half back line. was he a consideration for your all australian team?

Yes - it came down to Milburn or Heath Shaw. Scott Thompson kicked six today. I probably got that one wrong, too.
